MELVERN — Lyle Richard Janssen died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at his home in Melvern. He was 57.

He was born Nov. 17, 1965, in Columbus, Neb., the son of Richard and Ila (Hueschen) Janssen. He had lived in Nebraska before moving with his family to rural Lyndon, and then had lived in Melvern for more than 30 years. He graduated from Marais des Cygnes Valley High School in 1984. He was a member of the football team and was active in FFA and 4-H.

Lyle was united in marriage to Shelly Reece Sept. 2, 1989, in Lyndon. To this union two children were born, Lukis and Brookelyn.

He had worked for Brecheisen Fencing, Jack White Fencing and Rex Arb, but mostly he enjoyed driving his blade and maintaining roads for Melvern and Valleybrook Township for many years.

Lyle was preceded in death by his father, Richard Janssen (March 15, 2009).

He is survived by his wife, Shelly, of 33 years; his son, Lukis Janssen (Samantha), Melvern; his daughter, Brookelyn Janssen, Lyndon; his mother, Ila, Vassar; his two sisters, Kayleen Manrose, Wakarusa, and Jay Lee (David), Vassar; and his granddaughter, Lyla Janssen. He had a strong bond with his dog, T.J., but he had a stronger dislike for cats.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Marais des Cygnes Valley High School gym. Inurnment will be in the Melvern Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyle Janssen Memorial Fund and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
