OSAGE CITY — Donald Herbert Garrett Sr., Lyndon, died Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. He was 80.
He was born Oct. 2, 1941, in Bagnell, Mo., the son of Gerald and Icel (Platter) Garrett.
Don was united in marriage to Patricia Lambie July 30, 1960, in Kansas City. To this union four children were born, Don Jr., Patrick, James and Deborah.
He lived in Kansas City for many years before moving to rural Lyndon in 1994.
Don served 27 years on the Kansas City Police Department, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He then served several years as the Lyndon Police Chief. He was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #4, a member of the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police, a member of the Lyndon Lions Club and the Masonic Euclid Lodge #101 of Lyndon, and he served on Rural Water District #6. He was a member of the Stoney Point Christian Church, Kansas City, and United Methodist Church, Lyndon.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia; his three sons, Don Garrett Jr. (Windy), Kansas City, Patrick M. Garrett, Leavenworth, and James R. Garrett Sr. (Carrol Anne), Bonner Springs; his daughter, Deborah D. Garrett-Smith (Roger), El Dorado; his brother, Robert Garrett (Dayna), Overland Park; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until service time. Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, Kansas City.
