LAWRENCE — Leland Cloyce Kramer died Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at his home in Lawrence. He was 84.

Leland was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Melvern, the son of Cloyce “C.R.” Reed and Opal Boyer Kramer. He was the only living child to this union. A younger sibling was lost to a tubular pregnancy.

When Leland was in third grade, the family moved to Osage City. He graduated from Osage City High School and Emporia State University with a master’s degree.

In 1956, he began his teaching and coaching career at Osage City Junior High School, later moving to the high school to teach and coach football, track, golf and assistant coach in basketball. Later, he became the athletic director and school counselor. His counseling did not end when student’s left high school, but he continued to help students throughout their lives. He finished his career as the counselor at Leavenworth.

After retiring, he worked at Alvamar Golf Course and Hy-Vee, in Lawrence. Leland love people and the social part of his career choices allowed him to talk too many.

Leland married his high school sweetheart, Gertrude Noble, Dec. 19, 1954. She survives of the home. They had four children.

He was a member of the Army National Reserves, Osage City Lions Club, Osage City Golf Course and Osage City Methodist Church. Leland enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents.

Besides his wife, he is survived by four children Janet Bosworth and husband, David, Harveyville, JoLynn Kaberline, Lawrence, Chuck Kramer, Scranton, and Janell Neil, Topeka; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a cousin who was like a sister, Marolyn (Boyer) Rinne, Slaton, Texas; and a host of family and friends.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, there will not be a service at this time. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a future date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association and sent in care of Topeka Chapel Oaks Cremation and Funeral Services, 235 S.W. Topeka Blvd., Topeka, KS 66603.
