TOPEKA — Daphne Elizabeth Bailey, Lyndon, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was 88.

She was born Nov. 26, 1935, in Norwich, Norfolk England, the daughter of Donald and Charlotte (Thrower) Potter. She grew up in England, then had lived in Berryton for several years before moving to Lyndon in 1975, which is also the year she became a U.S. citizen.

On Aug. 4, 1962, Daphne was united in marriage to Vernon Bailey Sr. in Oklahoma City, Okla. She had her hands full raising six rowdy kids, Donald, Rebecca, Steve, Peggy, Jay and David.

Daphne worked for Kent Brown Automotive in Topeka, and also spent over 40 years as a tax preparer for Topeka Income Tax Service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon (Jan. 11, 2010; her daughter, Rebecca Cowser (Aug. 27, 2013); her parents, Donald and Charlotte Potter; and three grandchildren.

Daphne is survived by five children, Donald Hayes (Sara), Topeka, Steve Hayes (Janet), Perry, Peggy Wischropp (Kevin), Lyndon, Vernon “Jay” Bailey Jr. (Nicole), Osage City, and David Bailey (Patti), Lyndon; 26 grandchildren; and more than 50 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Nov. 4 at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. The family will receive friends 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 3 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society, and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
