OSAWATOMIE — Sally Jane (Hunsaker) Green, Paola, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, at Life Care Center, Osawatomie, surrounded by family and friends. She was 90.

She was born March 11, 1932, on the family farm in Turin, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Sallie (Waugh) Hunsaker. The family later moved to Mapleton, Iowa, where she graduated from Mapleton High School with the Class of 1950. Following graduation, she worked at a bank in Mapleton, and then attended flight attendant school in Omaha, Neb.

During visits with her grandparents and family in Olivet, Jane attended local dances with her cousins. It was at one of these dances that she met Jesse Dale Green Jr., who was from Melvern. They were married April 3, 1954, in Omaha. To this union two children were born, David and Diane.

Dale and Jane moved to a place west of Melvern, then northwest of Melvern, and finally to a farm three miles west of town in 1955. There they farmed and lived for 55 years, until Dale’s death in 2010.

Jane was busy with the farm and raising children. She later worked for more than a decade with the Melvern school’s food service.
She was involved with the Melvern Methodist Church and other clubs.

Jane and Dale enjoyed following their grandsons’ activities and were regulars at their school events. They also liked to travel, including camping trips with family. They continued to travel to various areas of the country later in their lives.

After Dale’s death, Jane moved to Paola to be closer to family. She became involved with the Paola Methodist Church and attended other community activities with friends. She also traveled to visit family in other parts of the country with her cousin. She lived with her grandson, Nelson, the last seven years, and they developed a special relationship and bond.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Steve Jones; her daughter-in-law, Diana (Turner) Green; her parents; her siblings, Iola Mae Bond (Cliff), Richard Hunsaker, Robert Hunsaker (in infancy), Lois Gowan (Walt), and Ralph Hunsaker (Bev); siblings-in-law, Juliette Burnett (Grover), Margaret Patterson (Otis), Bill Jones and Wayne Litch.

She is survived by her son, David Green (Mary); three grandsons, Jarred Green (Sheila), Lee “Nick” Green (Amy), and Nelson Green; six great-grandchildren, Stratton, Scarlett, Sterling, Scottlyn, Emerson and Wilder; five bonus grandchildren, Mike Armstrong (Trisha), Jeff Armstrong, Kathy Deason (Jeremy), Natalie Jones and Erik Jones; seven bonus great-grandchildren, Ashton, Kaiden, Maysen, Ethan, Jack, Kelly and Freddie; and three sisters-in-law, Helen Hunsaker, Mary K. Jones and Phyliss Litch.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at the Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial followed at the Melvern Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Melvern United Methodist Church, the Paola United Methodist Church or the Melvern Community Center, and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 822 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
