SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Douglas Jon Jernigan, San Diego, Calif., died Friday, Dec. 30, 2022, at UC San Diego Hospital, San Diego, Calif., due to heart failure. He was 72.

He was born Jan. 23, 1950, in Germany, to Ann Duczer. The family came to the United States in 1953, to Stockton, Calif., then located to Harveyville in 1955. Doug attended Harveyville Grade School and graduated from Harveyville High School in 1968.

Doug served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1977, then relocated to San Diego, Calif.

His best pal was the family dog, Buddy. Doug was an avid hunter, fisherman enthusiast and enjoyed time in Idaho and Kansas. His love of life was his Harley, the Royal Order of The Gray Ghosts and the Border Bandits, and just enjoying the ride.

Doug was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Bo Bahnmaier.

He is survived by his wife, Pam Jernigan, and family, San Diego, Calif.; his mother, Ann Duczer Murray, Lexington Park Retirement, Topeka; his brother, Gene Jernigan (Judy), Carbondale; two sisters, Virginia “Jeni” Bahnmaier, Osage City, and JoAnn “Joey” Jernigan (Everett Glenn), Meriden; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held in February at Rosecrans Cemetery, San Diego, and a private service will be held later at the farm of Everett Glenn and Joey Jernigan.
