OSAGE CITY — Nels LaRue Peterson died Friday, July 29, 2022, at his home east of Osage City. He was 82.

He was born Aug. 26, 1939, in Osage City, the son of Nels Arthur and Wilhelmina (Shively) Peterson. He grew up in Osage City and graduated from Osage City High School in 1958. He had lived east of Osage for the last 20 years.

LaRue was united in marriage to Iris Marie Jones Feb. 13, 1960. To this union two children were born, Crystal and Steven.

He was the owner of Peterson Nursing Home for 22 years and the owner of Peterson Assisted Living for six years. He farmed throughout this time as well. He also served in the United States Army Reserves, and was a member of the Osage City Jaycees and the Osage City United Methodist Church.

LaRue was preceded in death by his wife, Iris, in 1996; by his parents, Nels and Wilhelmina; and by a sister, Charlotte Michael.

He is survived by his companion of 24 years, Robin Dorr; his daughter, Crystal Peterson, Osage City; his son, Steven Peterson, Osage City; his brother, Jim Peterson, Osage City; two sisters, Linda Bowin and Archlean Frye, both of Osage City; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Private family services will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
