OSAGE CITY — Richard Ora Pickens, Osage City, died Friday, June 10, 2022, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City, surrounded by his family. He was 88.
He was born Jan. 6, 1934, in Leedy, Okla., the son of Lester E. Pickens and Madge A. Barrier. He graduated from Berryton High School in 1953.
He married Judith Lucille Peek Dec. 21, 1958, in Topeka. They met on a blind date set up by their friends.
Richard served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #198. He was an avid golfer, who loved meeting his buddies for a round of golf. He was well known for his sense of humor and storytelling.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judith L. Pickens; a daughter, Debra K. Anstaett; and his brother, Earl R. “Raymond” Pickens.
Richard will be forever remembered by his daughters, Dena Moore, Osage City, and Diana Christie (Cary), Olathe; son, Richard D. Pickens, Osage City; son-in law, Jack Anstaett, Osage City; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at the Osage City Country Club.
