COUNCIL HILL, Okla. — Donn Eugene “Bud” Carter died Monday, May 30, 2022, at his home in Council Hill, Okla. He was 92.

He was born July 5, 1929, in Harveyville, to Charles and Ruby (Shaw) Chenoweth. He grew up in Harveyville.

Bud joined the United States Air Force at 17 and finished his education while in the military. He was honorably discharged after 12 years of service. After his military career, he became a carpenter and worked for over 50 years. He also laid brick and stone. He was really good at anything he did.

He loved yard work and to chase the goats. He enjoyed playing the bass guitar, and even played on the road with Buck Owens. He also loved fishing and family get-togethers.

Bud was a longstanding member of the VFW Post 2709, Scranton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Freda Mae Chenoweth; six brothers and sisters; and a son-in-law, Mack Henricks.

Bud is survived by his wife, Gwen (Warren) Carter, of the home; eight daughters, Ann Graham, Oktaha, Okla., Connie Teter (Mike), Garnett, Genia Henricks (Richard), Ottawa, Janice Henricks, Ottawa, Abbigail Shideler (Ralph) Phoenix, Elizabeth Mae Piper (Ross), Topeka, Dawn Marie Heininger (John),  Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Ruby Anne Miller, Topeka; two sons, Preston Charles Chenoweth (Debbie), Aktins, Ark., and Thomas Eugene “Junior” West (Karen), Osage City; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other extended family; and a lifetime of friends.

The family of Donn Eugene “Bud” Carter entrusted his care and cremation to John and Kim Garrett and the dedicated staff of Garrett Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 311 S.W. Second St., Checotah, OK 74426.
