TOPEKA — Marilyn V. Gast, Overbrook, died Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was 79.

She was born July 1, 1942, in Harveyville, the daughter of Norman and Melva (Lewis) Foster. She graduated from Waverly High School in 1960.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Ronald E. “Ron” Gast June 10, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Waverly. They shared over 52 years of marriage before Ron’s death on June 16, 2013.

Ron and Marilyn moved to the Scranton community in 1963. Marilyn was a cook at Santa Fe Trail USD 434 for 25 years, before retiring in 2004.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Scranton, where she served on the Altar Society.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Marvin Foster; and her husband, Ronald Gast.

She is survived by three daughters, Penny Ard, Topeka, Marsha Goodyear (Tadd), Overbrook, and Elizabeth Gamblin (Danny), Overbrook; a son, Joseph Gast (Penny), Scranton; a brother, Ronald Foster (Vicky), Grain Valley, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Michelle Foster, Burlington; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Rosary was recited 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, followed by a visitation, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Scranton. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Osage City. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Waverly.
