DEMOREST, Ga. — Velma L. Reiss, Demorest, Ga., formerly of Osage City, died Tuesday, April 5, 2022. She was 87.

She was born June 28, 1934, in Versailles, Mo., to Edward and Mary Elizabeth Garber.

Velma attended Victory Baptist Church. The three most important things in her life were her Christian faith, her family and her friends. She loved to entertain people through her cooking, family reunions, board games and other activities. She was also an avid crafter, through quilting and sewing.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known to her grandchildren as “Grandma.” She had unconditional love for anyone and everyone she came in contact with, and she always loved to share her testimony of her love for her Savior, Jesus Christ.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Robert E. Reiss; and nine siblings, Raymond, Bob, Pauline, Dennis, Ina, Ed, Bill, Bud and Violet.

She is survived by her sons, Bob Reiss (Lisa), Demorest, Ralph Reiss, of the home, and Bruce Reiss (Julie), Clarkesville; grandchildren and spouses, Robert and Kris, Lyndsy and Michael, Connor, Emma and Ella; great-grandchildren, Trey, Hannah, Noah, Levi, Micah, Lisabeth and Tucker; four siblings, Lena, Mary, Rosie and Homer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Whitfield Funeral Home – South Chapel, Baldwin, Ga.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the Osage City Cemetery, under the direction of VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, Osage City.
