TOPEKA — Richard L. Henderson, Scranton, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at the University of Kansas Health System, Saint Francis Campus, Topeka. He was 80.

He was born Sept. 5, 1941, in Harveyville, the son of Clarence and Lela (Spidell) Henderson. He grew up in Harveyville and graduated from Harveyville High School with the Class of 1959.

Richard worked for Conroy Construction, Scranton. He worked for the City of Scranton from 1981 to 2006, retiring while in the maintenance department.

He married Barbara Scarbourgh Dec. 15, 1975, in Osage City. They shared over 42 years of marriage before her death in 2018.

Richard enjoyed fishing at the Osage County Lake and camping with his wife, Barbara. He loved spending time with his family, and he will be remembered for his humor and being a jokester.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; a sister, Betty Payne; and a granddaughter, Randi Crosby.

Richard is survived by three daughters, Lela Henderson, Scranton, Laura Marshall, Carbondale, and Ruth Benton (Dana), Scranton; a son, Marty Marshall, Topeka; a sister, Dorothy Perkin, Detroit, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb 4, at Cross Road Community Church, 512 Mason Street, Scranton. Inurnment will follow at Harveyville Cemetery.
