TOPEKA — Joseph Dennis “Junior” Pruitt, Overbrook, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2022, at a Topeka hospital due to COVID complications. He was 79.

He was born May 28, 1942, to Joseph Victor and Bernice (Richards) Pruitt. He had lived in Overbrook since 1978.

He was a maintenance mechanic at KPL, stationed at Tecumseh Power Plant (now Evergy) from 1974 until he retired in 1997. He was also a road maintainer at Tecumseh Township, Shawnee County, and Junction Township, Osage County, and he farmed and raised calves from 1978 to 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Denise Leverenz and Diane Sands; two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Leverenz and Jim Sands; and a niece, Tracy (Sands) Powell.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jody; a son, Nick Pruitt (Renee Williams); two grandchildren, Tyler Pruitt (Kelsey) and Bailey Greene (Travis); four great-grandchildren, Mason and Coleman Pruitt and Caiden and Lexie Greene; as well as other family members and a host of friends.

A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at Apple Valley Event Center, 9259 Apple Valley Lane, Ozawkie. Visitation and lunch will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to Osage County 4-H Shooting Sports and sent to Pruitt, 3743 S.E. Howard Dr., Topeka, KS 66605.
