OVERBROOK — Jane E. Mills, Osage City, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 81.

She was born April 22, 1940, in Osage City, the daughter of Carl and Vivian (Daniels) Colstrom. She was a lifelong Osage City resident, and graduated from Osage City High School with the Class of 1958.

Jane was united in marriage to Alton Mills Jan. 10, 1959, at the First Presbyterian Church of Osage City. They celebrated over 62 years of loving marriage.

Jane and Alton owned and operated the Riverside Supper Club just outside of Osage City from 1964 to 1975. Jane then owned C.J. Gifts and Sportswear in Osage City for many years. She later began managing the Dollar General in Osage City, until the early 2000s.

She was a creative person, whose artistic side was always on display. She was a self-taught painter. She painted several oil paintings, and had many crafts that she sold over the years at different craft shows and at the gift shop. She had a knack for creating the most memorable gatherings for her friends and family. She loved entertaining, and could create the most memorable meals and evenings when she hosted.

Over the years, Jane and Alton took many trips, traveling to various craft shows and markets with the sportswear store. She had a wonderful time recalling her trips to Kansas City, Dallas and Chicago.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Vivian Colstrom; two brothers, Jessie Colstrom and Bill Colstrom; and a sister, Lorna Kraus.

She is survived by her husband, Alton Mills, Osage City; three children, Terry Mills, Kansas City, Mo., Carrie Sloan (Andy), Lebo, and Mike Mills, Osage City; two sisters, Barbara Borsdorf, Coral Reef, Fla., and Mary Bolyard, Leavenworth; two granddaughters, Katelyn Sloan (Cody), Lebo, and Whitney Plummer (Luke), Manhattan; and two great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Jade Hutchinson, Lebo.

A celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at the Federated Church of Burlingame.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phoenix Hospice or Helping Hands Humane Society, and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 194, Burlingame, KS 66413.
