KANSAS CITY — Debra Ann Hortenstine, Carbondale, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City. She was 63.
She was born May 28, 1958, in Topeka, the daughter of Forrest and Josephine (Urban) Gibbs.
Debra was a homemaker and a truly selfless person, always thinking of others. She enjoyed sewing, baking and cooking, and was the true definition of a great mom. She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Scranton.
She married William “Bill” Hortenstine Sept. 18, 1976, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Topeka.
Debra was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Jason Walshire.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; three children, Jennifer Fenton (Robert), Rebecca “Becky” Idiaquez (Michael), and William “Will” Hortenstine (Sara); six grandchildren, Tracy Fenton, Caleb Walshire, Kimberly Fenton, Alex Idiaquez, Ian Idiaquez and Haley Hortenstine; one great-grandchild, Zoey Ruley; and her brother, Mark Gibbs (Carol).
Visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, Topeka, with family receiving friends 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Scranton. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Topeka.
