OSAGE CITY — Betty M. Schrader, 86, died Monday, June 21, 2021, at her son’s home in Osage City.

Betty Mae Speakman was born in Colorado Springs, Colo., Jan. 5, 1935, to Luther Merle and Helen Lucille (Pantzer) Speakman. From the age of 3 to 13, she was raised by her maternal grandmother, Hattie Pantzer, in Burlington, Colo. She then lived with her mother and the man she knew as “Daddy,” Charles Evans, in Goodland.

She met Wayne Dale Schrader, of Osage City, on a blind date in Brewster. They married, and during their lifelong union they raised six children, Vickie Lynn, Wayne Dale Jr., Pennie Lou, Cindy Lea, Linda Sue and Edward LeRoy.

Betty and Wayne lived in Spokane, Wash., and Chicago, Ill., while Wayne was an Air Force mechanic. They settled in Osage City in 1966. Betty worked for Hallmark for many years and had many lifelong friends. Her retirement years were spent with Wayne, and after his death, she lived with her son, Ed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Sr., and three children, Pennie, Wayne Jr. and Vickie.

Betty is survived by two daughters, Cindy Sharpe, Gypsum, and Linda Robertson, Osage City; a son, Edward Schrader, Osage City; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a great-great-great grandchild; many beloved nieces and nephews; and very loving companion, Pepe.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, Osage City. Burial will follow at Osage City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 25, at the funeral home.
