DAMON, Texas — Doris Snethen, Damon, Texas, formerly of Scranton, died Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at her home. She was 86.

She was born in Mountain Home, Ark., Feb. 1, 1935, the daughter of William and Clela (Taylor) Gale. She grew up in Wichita, and later moved to LaJunta, Colo., where she adopted her two children before moving to Rock Creek, and then eventually settling in the Scranton area, where she lived most of her adult life until moving to Damon, Texas, 13 years ago to be close to her daughter.

Doris was a lifelong homemaker. She enjoyed her many television shows she would watch through the day and was always active in the Scranton United Methodist Church when she lived there. Most important to Doris was raising her family. She was always there for them, keeping clothes on their backs, clean food on the table, and helping with whatever other needs they had. She loved them dearly.

She was united in marriage to Jack Snethen Aug. 3, 1952, in Wichita. They shared 56 years of marriage before his death in 2009.

Doris is survived by her daughter, Paula Stephens (Chuck), Damon, Texas; six grandchildren, Traci Woods (Lonnie), Pearland, Texas, Kendra Haynes (Steve), Texas City, Texas, Jackie Taylor (Anthony), Sallisaw, Okla., Brittany Shepherd (Thomas), Topeka, Devin Snethen, Webster, Texas, and Marina Hernandez (Anthony), Topeka; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at Scranton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Doris Snethen Memorial Fund and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 194, Burlingame, KS 66413.
