OVERBROOK — William “Bill” Kent Hurner died Monday, April 5, 2021, at his home in rural Overbrook. He was 67.

He was born Sept. 4, 1953, in Monroe, Neb., the son of Kenneth and Delores (Penhollow) Hurner.

Bill graduated from Nodaway County High School in Graham, Mo., in 1971. He then served in the United States Air Force from 1972 to 1975 during the Vietnam War.

He was married to Orlana Snell in January 2005. They shared over 16 years of marriage. He had lived in Scranton for several years before moving to a farm near Overbrook in 1996.

Bill worked as a supervisor for Essex Wire in Topeka for over 20 years, until the plant closed. He then turned his time to his and Orlana’s true passion and business, Future Quarter Horses. He was a local horse Farrier, trainer and breeder, and he also worked at the Overbrook Sale Barn for many years.

He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the Osage Wrangler Team Penning Club, and he always helped with the North Osage 4-H group.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Delores.

He is survived by his wife, Orlana, of the home; his children, Jess Farrell, Topeka, Dusty Rolla, Carbondale, and Stony (Carrie) Eagle, Overbrook; and his grandchildren, Ellie (Christian Davis), J.D., Abbie, Piper, Landrie and Eli, whom he loved and adored.

Bill will be cremated, and a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
