LYNDON — Wayne M. Walquist, 76, Lyndon, passed away peacefully Friday, March 19, 2021, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born Jan. 8, 1945, in Topeka, to Harvey and Roberta (Bulmer) Walquist.

After graduating from Lyndon High School, he attended Emporia State University and graduated with a degree in business administration.

Wayne served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1967 to 1968, serving with the 1011th Supply and Service Company in Vietnam. He earned the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service as a clerk with the company and as the driver for the commanding officer of the 29th General Support Group.

Wayne married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Jean Pierce, Aug. 28, 1966. To this union, they raised three amazing daughters, Amy, Carrie and Megan, and always welcomed any extras to the house while the girls were growing up.

Wayne was a lifelong Lyndon resident and early business owner of Wayne’s Clothing. He served in many community organizations, including the Jaycee’s and USD 421 Board of Education. A farmer and rural mail carrier, he could often be found at the farm, and he enjoyed being outdoors and fishing. He passed his love for livestock on to his girls and grandchildren. Wayne always did his best to find time to participate in their activities. There was rarely an event (4-H, school or sports) he missed.

He will be forever remembered by his wife, Marilyn Walquist, Lyndon; his daughters, Amy (Chris) Eichem, Wamego, Carrie Shaffer, Richmond, and Megan (Tim) Kilgore, Lyndon; his granddaughters, Shelbye, Morgan and Taylor; his grandson, Gage; his great-grandchildren, Harper and Layton; his brother, Bruce (Cindy) Walquist, Cleburne, Texas; his niece, Whitney (Craig) Vicars, Cleburne, Texas; and his 4-legged family members, Buddy, Reese, Josey, Benson and Millie.

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 23 at Feltner Funeral Home, Lyndon. Inurnment will follow at the Lyndon Cemetery with military honors. Visitation is 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 22 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayne Walquist Memorial Fund (to support the Lyndon community) and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451. To leave condolences for the family, visit www.feltnerfuneralhome.com.
