AUBURN – Charlene L. McClain, Carbondale, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2021, at Auburn Homestead, Auburn. She was 84.
She was born Oct. 11, 1936, in LeRoy, the daughter of Grover Edwards and Murel Brown. She grew up in the Topeka area, graduating from Topeka Seaman High School with the Class of 1955.
On Feb. 8, 1955, Charlene was united in marriage to Jack H. McClain in Topeka. Together they lived in Topeka until moving to Carbondale in 1963, living there together for the rest of their lives. Jack preceded Charlene in death in 2013. They shared 58 years of love together.
Charlene was a lifelong homemaker. She also loved tending to her flowers and many plants. She kept a very nice garden all of the time. She was also an avid fan of the KU Jayhawk basketball team and a huge fan of John Wayne. Above all things, though, Charlene loved her family deeply and it showed in the time and care she took for them throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack McClain; her parents; a son, Steven McClain; and three siblings, Maxine Rodriguez, Ernie Edwards and Hazel Eastman.
Charlene is survived by three sons, Kevin McClain, Topeka, Stewart McClain and wife, Rhonda, Carbondale, and Troy McClain, Berryton; four grandchildren, Heather Munoz, Lisa Crouch, Laura Hansen and Heather Neill; and several great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, at Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship, Carbondale. Interment will follow at Shawnee Center Cemetery, Wakarusa.
