LYNDON — Burris “Van” VanWey Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at his home in Lyndon. He was 91.

He was born on March 11, 1929, in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of William and Elsa (Borst) VanWey. He lived in Lyndon for over 27 years, having lived in Kansas City, Burlingame and Topeka before that.

Van served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952. He worked and retired from General Motors, in Kansas City, where he was an assemblyman and then inspector. He was a member of Burlingame Masonic Lodge 79 and the United Auto Workers 31.

Van married to Janice Reitz March 26, 1969, in Miami, Okla. She survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elsa; and a sister, Louise Henery.

Besides his wife of 51 years, he is survived by three children, Vera Davis, Blue Springs, Mo., William (Diane) VanWey, Chandler, Ariz., and Susan (Frank) Edwards, Meriden; a brother, Kenneth VanWey, Kansas City, Mo.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was cremated and no services are planned at this time.
