KANSAS CITY — Bernice May Soverns Flynn, Vassar, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, in Kansas City. She was 84

She was born Sept. 2, 1935, in Kansas City, the daughter of Robert and Bertha (Krautlarger) Soverns. She graduated in 1953, from Central High School, in Kansas City.

Bernice worked in her early years in retail at F.W. Woolworths. She later was employed at TG&Y, a variety store in Kansas City, and retired in 1992.

She married John Joseph Flynn Jr., March 31, 1980, in Oklahoma. They shared over 40 years of marriage before John died a few months ago on Aug. 30, 2020.

Bernice was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church, Pomona. She enjoyed caring for her animals, crocheting, shopping and traveling, specifically her favorite destination to Branson, Mo. Bernice loved to cook and was known for her homemade fudge and peanut brittle.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Louise Orndorff and Doris Rasch; and a stepson, Ronald M. Flynn.

Bernice is survived by a daughter, Sandy Belknap, Kansas City; a stepdaughter, Becky Noone and husband, Donnie, Kansas City; stepson, Larry J. Flynn, Overland Park; two brothers, Carl and Robert Jr. Soverns, both of Kansas City, Kansas; a sister, Linda Rolland, Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at Feltner Funeral Home, Lyndon, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Vassar Cemetery, Vassar. The family will also greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Feltner Funeral Home, Lyndon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Help House, in Lyndon, and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
