TOPEKA — Marvin W. Irey Monday, Aug. 10, 2020, at his home in Topeka. He was 79.

He was born Oct. 4, 1940, on the family farm near Melvern, the oldest son of William and Effie Schultze Irey. He grew up in Melvern and graduated from the Melvern schools. He lived in Topeka since 1962.

Marvin taught in the Topeka Public Schools, was a counselor for 38 years at Kaw Valley Vo-Tech and taught industrial arts at Topeka Women’s Prison. He was also a Master Finish Carpenter. He was member of Melvern Mason Lodge 22, Topeka Scottish Rite and Fellowship Bible Church.

He married Tricia Sexton June 13, 2004, in Eureka Springs, Ark. She survives of the home.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sarah Hill, Blue Springs, Mo.; two brothers, Jim Irey and wife, Linda, Melvern, and Jerry Irey, Topeka; three grandsons, Christian Goods, Collin Goods and Connor Hill; three great-grandchildren, Avery Goods, London Goods and Isabella Goods; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15 at Melvern United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Melvern Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Feltner Funeral Home, Lyndon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marvin Irey Memorial Fund, to be designated later for scholarships and Marvin’s interests and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
