WICHITA — Matthew Eugene Phillis died Thursday, May 21, 2020. He was 46.

He was born March 25, 1974, in Topeka, the son of Gene and Judy White Phillis.

He married his wife and best friend, DeAun Bird Phillis Aug. 1, 2009, in Wichita. She survives.

Matt graduated from Seaman High School in 1992. He graduated from Marine Mechanics Institute, in Orlando, Fla., in 2012, as a certified boat mechanic.

He was a member of South Rock Christian Church, Derby. Matt loved to work on his grandfather’s farm, in Melvern. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Phillis, and grandparents, Alvin and Lillian Phillis and Lloyd and Dorothy White.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Hannah, Wichita; his mother, Judy Phillis Bradley and husband, Tom, Blue Mound; a sister, Jennifer Sommers and husband, Dan, Burleson, Texas; two brothers, Joshua Phillis and wife, Angie, Keller, Texas, and Zachary Phillis, Topeka; and several nieces and nephews.
