John Nichols

TOPEKA — John Nichols, Carbondale, died Monday, May 4, 2020, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka, following a battle against cancer. He was 84.

He was born July 25, 1935, on the family farm near Carbondale, the son of Louis and Cora Peterson Nichols. John lived all of his life on the farm near Carbondale and graduated from Carbondale High School.

John served in the Kansas Army National Guard for 36 years, owned and operated a mowing service for 30 years, assisted his wife reading meters and farmed. He was a member of Overbrook American Legion Post 239 and Grace Chapel Church, Carbondale.

He married Carolyn Siecgrist Sept. 3, 1960, in Carbondale. She survives.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, Kevin Nichols and wife, Lisa, Kerwin Nichols and wife, Bev and Melanie Campbell and husband, Brad; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Towne, all of Carbondale.

A private family graveside service will be held at Ridgeway Cemetery, east of Carbondale.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Chapel, for Operation Christmas Child Shoebox and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
