Robert A. Bergquist

MARYSVILLE — Robert A. Bergquist, Waterville, died Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Community Memorial Health Care, Marysville. He was 76.
Bob was born Feb. 24, 1944, at Osage City, the son of Arthur and Margaret Bergstrom Bergquist. He graduated in 1962 from Osage City Rural High School.
He served as an operating room technician in the U.S. Navy, serving a tour in Vietnam. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1972, with a degree in wildlife biology. Upon graduation, he went to work for Kansas Wildlife and Parks as a wildlife biologist, retiring in 2002. After retirement, he worked for Waterville Housing Authority and Terry-Christie Funeral Home.
He married Jeannette Washburn May 29, 1964. She survives. To this union was born a daughter, Kristin and a son, Alrik.
Bob was a member of Waterville United Methodist Church, where he served on the finance committee, was a lay leader, a Sunday School teacher, Alpha Group leader and a member of the church choir.
Bob was a member of Gideons International, American Legion Springer Post 332 and VFW, Lions Club, Sutton Lodge 85 of the AF&AM, Waterville Tree Board and was a lifetime member of K-State Alumni Association. His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking and traveling with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Edwin Bergquist, Ralph Bergquist, Raymond Bergquist and Harold Bergquist; and two sisters, Christine Woolery and Carolyn Walden.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kristin Bergquist, Waterville, Maine; a son, Alrik Bergquist and wife, Nora, Lincoln, Neb.; and a sister, Anna May Ptacek, Parkville, Mo.
Viewing is from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Terry-Christie Funeral Home, Waterville.
Private graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 8 at Riverside Cemetery, Waterville, with Pastor Troy Bowers officiating. The service will be available live on Facebook. Music will include a hymn of “Amazing Grace” and recordings of “It Is Well With My Soul” and “I’ll Fly Away”. Honorary pallbearers are Roger Terry, Bill Bryant, Harry Steinfort, Bob Washburn, Larry Nolte, Wally Pitney, Franklin Heck and LJ Stephenson. Burial with military honors is at Riverside Cemetery, Waterville. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
