CARO, Mich. — Ronald Arthur Moore, Caro, Mich., died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020, at Heritage Hill Assisted Living, Caro, Mich. He was 93.
He was born Dec. 11, 1926, in North Branch, Mich., the son of the late Casper and Nora Moore.
He enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Force at 17 years-old in what would become an almost 28 year career in the military. During his service, he saw duty in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Six Day War and Cuban Missile Crises. After his first 17 months of service with the Army Air Force, he attended Michigan State University where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering. Following his graduation, he became an officer with the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His was primarily assigned as a pilot, flying high speed planes and bombers, but also served as a weather officer and after graduating from military justice school in 1955, he became a Judge Advocate General. Ron retired from Naval Air Station Olathe, in Kansas and remained in the state until moving to Caro, Mich., in 2010.
Ron was a lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Overbrook, St. Christopher Parish, Caro, Mich., and the Caro Knights of Columbus Council 3224. He was active in the community and a member of the American Legion, Loyal Order of the Moose, Experimental Aircraft Association and Polish Legion of American Veterans, USA Chartered by Congress.
He married Alma Mary Alfred, June 3, 1949, in Pensacola, Fla. They celebrated 60 years together and raised a family of four children. Following her death in 2009, he married Eleanor Razmus, May 22, 2010 and cherished his second chance at love until her passing on Dec. 8, 2019.
Besides his wives, he was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Alan Moore, Feb. 18, 1974.
Left to cherish Ron’s memory are three children and their spouses, Jane and Sam Gunther, Lawrence, Ron Jr. and Debbi Moore, Olathe, and John and Karen Moore, Clarksville, Tennessee; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Orva Jane Weinguartz, of Michigan, and Geraldine Fiero, of California; and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Ron’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Lapeer. Graveside services and Inurnment will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22 at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Ottawa.
