Robert D. Vandevord

SCRANTON — Robert D. Vandevord, Scranton, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019. He was 91.

He was born June 20, 1928, in Scranton, the son of Clifford and Anna Jones Vandevord. He attended Pleasant Valley Country School and graduated from Burlingame High School in 1946.

Robert was a member of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.

He worked for Topeka Supply Depot and then became a farmer/stockman. Robert was an avid lover of fishing, hunting and the Colorado Mountains.

He married Patty R. Harris, June 19, 1954, in Burlingame. She preceded him in death on March 27, 1999.

Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

He is survived by six children, Jim Vandevord, Bob Vandevord, Mike Vandevord and wife, Linda and Jane Vandevord, all of Scranton, and Tom Vandevord and wife, Linda, Susie Barlow and husband, Mike, all of Burlingame; a brother, Dale Vandevord, Scranton; a sister-in-law, Millie Harris, California; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Ramskill Memorial Chapel, Burlingame Cemetery, Burlingame. He will lie in state 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Carey Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends and relatives from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Burlingame Recreation Commission or the Burlingame First Responders and sent in care of Carey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 196, Burlingame, KS 66413.
