KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Frieda L. Hurt, Garnett, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. She was 88.

She was born Dec. 10, 1930, at California, Mo., the daughter of Fredrick and Mabel Lovick Schmutz. Frieda moved from Haven to Lyndon in 1967, where she lived for over 40 years, until moving to Topeka and then Garnett.

She was a homemaker and worked in the office of Osage County Clerk of the District Court for over 15 years before retiring. She was a member of the Lyndon United Methodist Church and she currently attended First Christian Church, Garnett.

She developed a card ministry while living in Lyndon and continued to send out nearly 500 cards a year. She purchased books for school children and wrote stories for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frieda married Paul Leon Hurt June 11, 1948, at California, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 21, 2004.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey Arb.

Frieda is survived by seven children, Leon Wayne Hurt and wife, Jacque, Topeka, Vickie Hurt, Garnett, Danny Hurt and wife, Annetta, Lyndon, Alan Hurt and wife, Pam, Mound City, Sonia Arb, Lawrence, Nadine Schryer, Spring, Texas, and Marcia Spring and husband, Steve, Garnett; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at Lyndon United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow at Lyndon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Frieda Hurt Memorial Fund, to be used for the purchase of children’s books to be given in her memory and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
