CARBONDALE—The Carbondale City Council accepted the resignation of Stephen Smith, police chief, just one week after his hiring.
Mike Fulton, mayor, announced Smith has terminated his agreement as the new chief, and would be moving his family for a better paying position in Texas.
Fulton instructed the council to review the previous applications for police chief. The council agreed to conduct a special meeting March 14 to interview Gordon Smith and to discuss applications for police officer.
Fulton also spoke to the council about maintenance and cleaning of the police department.
“We had to replace the toilet within the department as it was beyond repair,” said Richardson.
Fulton also said spotlights on the two police vehicles were damaged and needed replaced.
