KANSAS CITY — David Eugene Schmitendorf, Emporia, died Friday, May 27, 2022, at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City. He was 66.

He was born Nov. 20, 1955, in Topeka, the son of George and Louise (White) Schmitendorf.

David married Paula Stack July 13, 1986, in Emporia.

He worked the past nine years as a maintenance engineer at Emporia Presbyterian Manor. Before that he worked at Dolly Madison and Tyson Foods in Emporia.

David enjoyed fishing, shooting and working with his hands – Mr. Fix It.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Schmitendorf.

David is survived by his wife, Paula, of the home; his sons, Bryce Schmitendorf (Kacey), Edgerton, Michael Vernon, Salina, and Brady Schmitendorf, of the home; his mother, Louise Schmitendorf, Lansing; his brothers, Francis Schmitendorf (Patty), Lansing, James Schmitendorf (Teresa), Lyndon, and Larry Schmitendorf (Anita), Bonner Springs; his sister, Yvonne Beets (James), Olathe; and two grandchildren, Ian and Ava Schmitendorf.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Interment will be in Lyndon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Emporia Friends of the Zoo and sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State St., Emporia, KS 66801.
