WAKARUSA – James E. Lederer, 73, Wakarusa, passed away at his home, Monday, Feb. 22, 2021.
He was born Sept. 5, 1947, in Ottawa, to John Sr. and Nellie Johnson Lederer. In 1965, Jim graduated from Pomona High School, where he played football and was voted most likely to succeed. He attended Emporia State University, and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving our country during the Vietnam War.
On Dec. 22, 2008, Jim and Geraldine “Geri” Cummings Peterson were united in marriage. She passed away Jan. 1, 2021.
Jim enjoyed music, singing, and accompanying himself on the guitar. He was generous to a fault, kind-hearted, and loved everyone. He will be greatly missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and brother-in-law, Duane Johnson.
Survivors include his siblings, Kay Johnson, Council Grove, Jack Lederer (Terry), Gardner, and Helen Ramshaw (Ray), Wakarusa; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Monday, March 1, at 10 a.m., at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home in Topeka, followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Inurnment was at the Shawnee Center Cemetery in Wakarusa.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Topeka VA Medical Center to be used for patient needs, and can be sent to c/o Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, KS 66614.
