Mildred “Virginia Gardner Gifford

Oct. 30, 1920 – Nov. 26, 2019

WAVERLY — Mildred “Virginia” Gardner Gifford, Waverly, went to heaven Nov. 26, 2019, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home, Waverly. She was 99.

Virginia was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Osage City, the oldest daughter of David and Gertrude Mainwaring Gardner. She graduated from Osage City High School in 1938.

She married Robert “Bob” L. Gifford Dec. 2, 1938, in Emporia. He died on June 4, 1984.

Virginia was a homemaker, until her children were grown. She went to work for Fleming Company and Josten’s. She retired to Waverly to be near her daughter after he husband’s death.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters.

She is survived by three daughters, Joan Steward and husband, Leroy, Waverly, Dianne Plumberg and husband, Larry, Grain Valley, Mo., and Vickie Foster and husband, Ron, Golden, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services were Monday, Dec. 2, at Waverly United Methodist Church. Burial was in Burlingame Cemetery, Burlingame.
