WAVERLY — Betty Jean Hunter, Burlingame, died Oct. 27, 2019, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home, Waverly. She was 96.

Betty was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Waverly, the oldest child of George K. Marsh and Etta E. Weiss. She grew up on the family farm and attended Melvern High School. Her parents moved to Riverside, Calif., where she graduated from high school. After graduation the family later returned to Kansas and she started her working career.

She married John W. Hunter July 2, 1944, in York, Neb. He preceded her in death. They were the parents of a daughter, Tonia Jean.

After making their home on the farm, near Westphalia, they eventually made their home in Salina, where Betty was a secretary for Busboom and Rauh Construction Company for over 30 years. After her husband’s death she moved to Burlingame, where she lived with her daughter, Tonia.

She was a member of Burlingame Federated Church, Fidelity Chapter of the Eastern Star and many other clubs and organizations.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tonia, and a brother, Francis Marsh.

She is survived by a brother, Byron Marsh and wife Yvonne, Longmont, Colo.; a sister, Joyce Corbin, Topeka; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Marsh, Waverly; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at Burlingame Federated Church. Inurnment will follow at Glendale Cemetery, Waverly.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Federated Church of Burlingame or Friends of the Library and sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, Burlington.
