TOPEKA \u2014 Richard L. Henderson, Scranton, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at the University of Kansas Health System, Saint Francis Campus, Topeka. He was 80.<\/p>\n
He was born Sept. 5, 1941, in Harveyville, the son of Clarence and Lela (Spidell) Henderson.\u00a0He grew up in Harveyville and graduated from Harveyville High School with the Class of 1959.<\/p>\n
Richard worked for Conroy Construction, Scranton. He worked for the City of Scranton from 1981 to 2006, retiring while in the maintenance department.<\/p>\n
He married Barbara Scarbourgh Dec. 15, 1975, in Osage City.\u00a0They shared over 42 years of marriage before her death in 2018.<\/p>\n
Richard enjoyed fishing at the Osage County Lake and camping with his wife, Barbara.\u00a0He loved spending time with his family, and he will be remembered for his humor and being a jokester.<\/p>\n
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Barbara; a sister, Betty Payne; and a granddaughter, Randi Crosby.<\/p>\n
Richard is survived by three daughters, Lela Henderson, Scranton, Laura Marshall, Carbondale, and Ruth Benton (Dana), Scranton; a son, Marty Marshall, Topeka; a sister, Dorothy Perkin, Detroit, Mich.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.<\/p>\n
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb 4, at Cross Road Community Church, 512 Mason Street, Scranton. Inurnment will follow at Harveyville Cemetery.<\/p>\n
