He was 78.<\/p>\n<p>He was born June 22, 1941, in Raven, Va., to Sherman Newberry and Alta Cantrell Newberry.<\/p>\n<p>James was a member of Headland First Baptist Church. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. A past member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, for 10 years and a member of Gideons International, James started a prison ministry that continues today. He was awarded several Salesman of the Year awards during his employment at Sysco. He loved everything outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, golf and travelling.<\/p>\n<p>He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bill and a sister, Dorothy.<\/p>\n<p>Besides his wife of 30 years, Connie Gilger Newberry, he is survived by a son, Jim Newberry and wife, Tina; two daughters, Jamie Anderson (Stan Gollobith) and DeAnna Roso: four grandchildren, BreAwna Newberry, Bayli Newberry, Mallory Newberry and Dominic Roso; a granddaughter, Kyah; a brother, Jesse Woodrow Newberry; his faithful companion, \u201cBJ;\u201d and numerous other relatives and friends.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral services were Dec. 4, at Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, Alabama, with Dr. Cecil Sanders and Dr. L. D. Holmes officiating. Burial followed in Memory Hill Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P. O.
