TOPEKA — Rella Ann Morgan, Scranton, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, at the University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus, Topeka. She was 79.

She was born March 15, 1945, in Topeka, the daughter of Gustaf Edwin Segelquist and Mayme Elizabeth (Elmore) Segelquist. She graduated from Scranton High School, then attended Emporia Teachers College.

Rella was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Morgan Feb. 14, 1965, in Scranton. They shared over 59 years of marriage before Kenneth’s death on June 25, 2024.

She worked many different jobs for the Santa Fe Trail school district for over 35 years, including lunchroom/recess aide, custodian and nurse, and could always be counted on to keep score at a volleyball or basketball game.

Rella was an active member of the Scranton United Methodist Church for much of her life. She was also a member of the Scranton Lions Club, and was treasurer for the Scranton Fire Department. She was an emergency medical technician for over two decades.

She loved people, especially the kids at school. She was known for always having an extra pair of socks, mittens or whatever the kids might need. She also enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family. She especially loved decorating for Christmas, and would leave the decorations up as long as she could. She enjoyed hosting family events, and could be counted on for a good wiener roast and homemade rolls.

Rella was always on the go, regardless of good or bad weather. She enjoyed going to other communities to play dominoes and bunko, tending to her beautiful flower garden, watching the birds, butterflies and any stray critters from her kitchen window, and she loved her cats, Max and Missy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Mayme Segelquist; a brother, William Segelquist; and her husband, Kenneth L. Morgan.

Rella is survived by her two daughters, Kristina Overman, Hoyt, and Kristal Morgan, Scranton; a sister, Helen Glass (Jim), Florida; a brother, Harold Segelquist (Terry), Scranton; two granddaughters, Morgan and Marlow Overman; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Memorial services are 10 a.m. Sept. 7 at Cross Road Community Church, Scranton. Inurnment will be in Scranton Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Scranton Lions Club or Scranton Fire Department, and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 194, Burlingame, KS 66413.
