LAWRENCE – LaDonna F. Harcar passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2024, at Cedarhurst Senior Living, Lawrence. She was 69.

LaDonna Faye Atchison was born Feb. 19, 1955, in Osage City, the daughter of Louis F. Atchison and Anna D. (Hooper) Ullrich. She graduated from Reading High School in 1973.

She he was joined in marriage to Thomas Joseph Harcar June 2, 1973, in Reading.

LaDonna worked various small jobs while the family moved frequently due to Tom’s work with the Santa Fe Railroad, living in places like Illinois, Colorado and Kansas, all while raising three daughters. She later worked for Tonganoxie Public Schools as a cook, and in the summers worked at the schools doing various jobs like maintenance, painting and janitorial work. She was always doing something and on the go.

Family was very important to LaDonna. She cherished spending time with her large extended family, especially her siblings. She took great joy in watching her daughters and grandchildren participate in sports and other activities over the years, always being there to support them. She also loved the outdoors and nature, enjoying hiking, camping, fishing, boating, bicycling, and taking scenic drives.

LaDonna will be forever remembered by her daughters, Mechelle Harcar, Shawnee, Angela Dick (Dustin), Topeka, and Tracy Harcar, Tonganoxie; three grandchildren, Aubrey Dick, Lawrence, Seth Rafols, Des Moines, Iowa, and Lydia Rafols, Tonganoxie; eight sisters, Frances Sapp, Peggy Myers and Regina Combs (Ron), all of Osage City, Lela Ralphetta Atchison, San Antonio, Texas, Marcella Reynolds (David), Americus, Ranelda Tatman (Jay), Emporia, Sandra Riley (Elmer), Winchester, Ky., and Christie Davis (Bill), Chanute; seven brothers, Bradley Atchison (Mary) and Lonnie Atchison (Joye), both of Reading, Rex Atchison (Gail), Topeka, Clarence Atchison (Michelle), Lyndon, Paul Atchison (Tina), Topeka, Louis Dwayne Atchison (Diana), Winchester, Ky., and Paul Myers (Reannee), Emporia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Harcar; a sister, Phyllis Atchison; and a brother, Michael Atchison.

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Aug. 26 at Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, Lebo. Burial followed at Arvonia Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Great Plains SPCA, Helping Hands Humane Society or Saint Croix Hospice, and sent in care of Jones VanArsdale Funeral Home, P.O. Box 43, Lebo, KS 66856.
