TOPEKA – Joseph Leon Massey, Lyndon, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 77.

He was born Dec. 17, 1946, in Walnut Ridge, Ark., the son of Dewan and Beulah (McCloud) Massey. He grew up in Pocahontas, Ark., and graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1964. He had lived in or near Lyndon since 1973.

Joe served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968.

He was united in marriage to Linda McAtee Jan. 20, 1967, in Pocahontas, Ark., and to this union three children were born, Bill, Tim and Tami.

Joe worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber, Topeka, in curing until he retired after 32 years of service.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #125 and Euclid Lodge #101 A.F.&A.M., both in Lyndon. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church, Lyndon, and the Household of Faith Church, Benton, Ark.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Dewan and Beulah Massey; his sister, Pat White; his stepbrother, Dwight Evans; and two great-grandchildren, Rhett and Robin.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda; his two sons, Bill Massey (Tamara), Melvern, and Tim Massey (Diane Palmer), Topeka; his daughter, Tami Reece (Ron), Lyndon; a sister, Janet Crabb (John), Pocahontas, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Aug. 25 at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the chapel. Inurnment will be in the Melvern Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #125, the First Baptist Church, or the Household of Faith Church, and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
