GROVE, Okla. – Joan Jane Talbot, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, at her home in Grove, Okla. She was 95.

Born June 22, 1929, in Wilmington, to Iva May (Sowers) Reed and Thomas Walter Reed, Joan was the first of six children. She was raised on the family farm and graduated high school in Harveyville, in 1946.

She married Earl Edgar Parker in 1952, and they began a family. They later divorced. She married James Earl Talbot in 1962.

Joan worked various jobs throughout her life. She drove an EFD delivery truck, she was a pharmacist assistant in Belton, Mo., which she loved, and she later retired from the Internal Revenue Service as a document control clerk. After retirement, she spent lots of time with family and was a beloved and cherished grandmother, always traveling around with her little red suitcase.

She was a fun-loving person who had the gift of gab and never knew a stranger. She loved going out and was always up for fun and adventure, once even driving a stock car in a powder puff race. She enjoyed lively political discussions and playing bingo, and was an extraordinary card player. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed reading her Bible.

In later life, Joan resided with her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Bonnie, in Burlingame.  Her constant companion was her beloved dog, Baxter. She spoiled Baxter and took him everywhere she went; they were inseparable. After a car accident, Joan moved to Grove, Okla., to be cared for by her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Michael Wayne Parker and David Lee Parker.

Surviving children include William Dean Parker (Patty), Kevin Leslie Talbot (Tamra) and Karin Lynn Dwillis (Shawn). Joan was also the proud grandmother of Barry, Kelly, John, Charlie, Anthony, Nick, Luke, Brian, Seth and Dustin. In recent years, she became a great-grandmother as well. She is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy Kopp (Earl), Donna McMechan (Stan), and Laura Withers (Bob); her brother, Jim Reed (Lorene); and many nieces and nephews.

Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Aug. 24 at Wilmington Cemetery, Wilmington. Memorial services will follow at Tall Grass Christian Camp, 11908 Old Log House Road, Harveyville.
