TOPEKA – Sharon Ann Vawter, Scranton, died Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was 82.

She was born Nov. 2, 1941, in Topeka, the daughter of Lewis and Margaret (Kelch) Wilson.

Sharon married Tom Harris, and they later divorced. To this union four children were born, James, Paul, Shawn and Cynthia Leigh.

She married Jim Vawter Aug. 5, 1988, in Scranton. They shared nearly 36 years of marriage.

Sharon worked 16 years as the store manager at Casey’s General Store, Scranton, then retired after 20 years of service. She loved greeting and visiting with everyone who came into the store.

She was a member of the Scranton Lions Club, and was an avid reader who enjoyed romance and mystery novels. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, making bead jewelry and bookmarks. She will be remembered for her giving and caring personality.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Margaret Wilson; two sisters, Dorothy Rucker and Lois Wagner; her daughter, Cynthia Leigh Harris; her granddaughter, Cythia Marie Harris; and a great-granddaughter, Kapri Lane Bradley.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Vawter, of the home; her three sons, James “Jim” Harris, Carbondale, and Paul Harris and Shawn Harris, both of Berryton; a stepdaughter, Loree Brooks, Burlingame; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Aug. 10 at the Cross Road Community Church, 512 Mason Street, Scranton. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, Topeka. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 9 at Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 503 South Topeka Avenue, Burlingame.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Scranton Lions Club or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, and sent in care of Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 194, Burlingame, KS 66413.
