OVERBROOK – Joyce Iwig died Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Ruble Ranch Memory Care, Overbrook. She was 90.
She was born July 25, 1934, in Gillett, Wis., the daughter of John and Cleona (Pearce) Jones. She was raised in Wisconsin, and then joined her husband, Paul, serving churches in various towns in Kansas.
Joyce earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from North Central Illinois, a master’s degree in Elementary Guidance Counseling from Kansas State Teachers College, and then a Master of Divinity from Central Baptist Seminary. She was ordained in the United Methodist Church. She had a passion for helping others and prison ministries, and devoted many hours at the women’s prison in Topeka. She also volunteered at Walk to Emmaus and the Forest Park Summer Assembly. She was a member of the Lyndon United Methodist Church.
On Aug. 18, 1956, Joyce was united in marriage to Paul Wesley Iwig in Gillett, Wis. To this union four daughters were born, Becky, Deb, Judy and Angie.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, on Feb. 27, 2018; her parents, John and Cleona; all 11 of her siblings; and two sons-in-law, Rick Hermann and Gene Koepke.
She is survived by her four daughters, Becky Galbraith (Jim), Climax Springs, Mo., Deb Koepke, Topeka, Judy Iwig, Lyndon, and Angie Peterson (Mike), Vassar; eight grandchildren, Chris Kobusczewski (Josh), Joe Landis, Caity Hermann, Jackson Hermann, Shelby Walker (Brennan), A.J. Sellers, Sadie Sellers and Brandon Fanders (Madison); four stepgrandchildren, Gwen Warton (Bob), Jackie Long, Laura Koepke Lentz (Jeff), and Olivia Peterson; 19 great-grandchildren with one more nearly here; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Aug. 7 at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. The family received friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lyndon Cemetery.
