CARBONDALE — Michael Scott Lucas, Carbondale, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2022. He was 60.
He was born Sept. 28, 1961, in Chillicothe, Mo., the son of Harlan and Charlotte (Gregory) Lucas. He attended South Nodaway High School, graduating in 1979.
Michael worked in maintenance for Fontainebleau Apartments. Prior to that, he worked for Douglas Rural Water District No. 3 as a class 4 water operator for nearly 20 years.
He married Paula Anstaett April 24, 1992, in Carbondale.
Michael was a member of the Masonic Lodge #70 in Carbondale, the Carbondale Lions Club and the North American Hunting Club, and he volunteered for the Carbondale Fire Department. He loved to hunt and fish, and especially enjoyed working with his son on the farm. He would volunteer his time to help anyone in need. He also enjoyed working as a water operator. Most of all, he relished watching his children play sports and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harlan, and a nephew, Shawn Boner.
Michael is survived by his wife, Paula Lucas, Carbondale; his sons, Matthew Anstaett (Ashley), Carbondale, James Lucas, Topeka, and Mark Lucas, Carbondale; his grandson, Harlan Anstaett; his mother, Charlotte Lucas, Carbondale; his siblings, David Lucas, Carbondale, Sharon Crouch (Jesse), Missouri, Bonnie Jackson (Marlon), Burlingame, Roger Lucas (Gloria), Topeka, and Mitzi Kohlleppel (Ben), Burlingame; his 36 nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at Dove Cremations and Funerals – Southwest Chapel, 3700 S.W. Wanamaker Rd., Topeka. Visitation will be noon, prior to the service.
