LYNDON — Shirley Jean Fitzgerald died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at her home near Lyndon. She was 82.

She was born July 30, 1939, in Topeka, the daughter of Clarence and Frances (Kraus) Flanagan.

Shirley had lived near Lyndon for over 11 years, and had lived in Carbondale before that. She had worked at Woolworths and Mainline Printing, but she worked longest as a wife, mother and homemaker. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed country dancing, even teaching dancing for the Topeka Recreation Department.

In October 1957, Shirley was united in marriage to Ed Fitzgerald in Topeka. To this union three children were born, Jerry, Charles and Teresa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, on Jan. 9, 2009; her daughter, Teresa Ackerman; her parents, Clarence and Frances; and her two sisters, Violet Moore and Janis Dickerson.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Jerry Fitzgerald, Ozawkie, and Charles Fitzgerald (DeAnna), Carbondale; her companion, Jim Snyder, Lyndon; her two brothers, Dennis and Gary Flanagan; her sister, Cleta Hopkins; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A visitation with family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. Cremation will take place after the visitation.
