OVERBROOK — Ramona Amanda Johnson, 94, Overbrook, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook.

She was born Aug. 3, 1927, in Vliets, the daughter of Carl David and Agnes Marie (Sanderson) Kasper. She grew up in Marshall County, and graduated from Vermillion High School, Vermillion, with the Class of 1945.

Ramona was united in marriage to Richard C. Johnson Nov. 22, 1950, in Topeka. They shared 32 years of marriage until Richard’s death on Oct. 30, 1982.

She loved her church family at Cross Road Community Church, Scranton. She had attended there since 1978 and continued until she was no longer able to get out. She was an active member of the women’s group, and enjoyed many friendships there.

Ramona began her professional career working at the National Fire Insurance Co., Topeka, as a filer. She later worked for most of her professional life at American Yearbook, Topeka, as a typesetter. She also worked for the Kansas Highway Patrol in the accident report division until her retirement in 1990.

She was active in the Overbrook community as a member of the Cosmos club, as well as working at Brookside Retirement Community, Jack’s Cafe, and for several years at the local newspaper.

Ramona was an accomplished quilter and made quilts for all 13 of her grandchildren, as well as baby quilts for her great-grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed camping with her family. She was blessed to have traveled to many national parks and to Alaska over the years on bus trips with Tudor Tours. She enjoyed traveling to Sweden, the homeland of her ancestors, with her sister, Alice.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; and four siblings, Norma Kasper, Alice Dodd, Ruth Kasper and Kermit Kasper.

Ramona is survived by her son, Stephen Johnson, and his wife, Pamela, Topeka, along with their daughter, Brylee Fischer and her husband, Luke; her daughter, Debbie Friesen, and her husband, Stan, Overbrook, along with their children, Rebekah Evans and her husband, Scott, Rachel Henry and her husband, John, Jacob Friesen and his wife, Alyssa, and Peter Friesen; her son, Daniel Johnson, and his wife, Bev, Topeka, along with their children, Luke Johnson and his wife, Chantal, Eli Johnson, Hannah Ayala and her husband, Bryan, and Lydia Johnson; her daughter, Becky Yager, and her husband, Tyson, Derby, along with their children, Levi Yager, Noah Yager, Silas Yager and Charis Yager; and four great-grandchildren, Bowen, Connor, Lincoln and Uriah.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, 2021, at Cross Road Community Church, Scranton. The family will greet friends prior to the service, beginning at 3 p.m.
