WICHITA — Dale E. Dunn, Wichita, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021. He was 91.

He was born Oct. 17, 1929,  in Burlingame, the third of five children born to John and Mary (Smith) Dunn.

Following graduation from Burlingame High School, Dale was employed with the Santa Fe Railway. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. In 1954, he enrolled at Emporia State University and graduated in 1957 with a bachelor’s degree in English. He completed 30 hours beyond his master’s degree while working on his administrative degree from Wichita State University.

He taught English at Cheney High School for eight years, and then moved to the Wichita public schools, teaching at Horace Mann, then as an administrator at Coleman Junior High, North High School, Allison, Mead, and retiring in 1990 from Wilbur Junior High. Following retirement, he was employed for 13 years with Downing & Lahey Mortuary.

Dale and his wife, Karen, enjoyed playing bridge and attending various sporting events. They had season tickets to WSU men’s basketball games and faithfully attended for 57 years. They also had KSU football tickets for over 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Jack and Robert; and his sisters, Doris Ann and Jane.

Dale is survived by his wife, Karen (Miller) Dunn; his daughter, Kayla Nickel (Todd); his son, Kipton Dunn (Amy); and his six grandchildren, Kyra Johnston (Brett), Kale Nickel, Koby Nickel, Otto Dunn, Augustine Dunn and Georgia Dunn.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Pathway Church, 2001 N. Maize Road, Wichita. Arrangements by Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
