MILLER — Darrell Roy “Jenks” Jenkins died Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at home on the family farm in Miller. He was 63.
He was born July 3, 1957, in Emporia, the son of LeRoy S. Jenkins Jr. and Mary Louise (Rolfsmeyer) Jenkins, on their 10th anniversary. He was the fourth of six children.
Jenks grew up working on the family farm and graduated from Northern Heights High School in 1975. He worked various jobs over the years, all of them revolving around what he loved: family, trucking and farming. He had also been the caretaker of Stotler Cemetery, outside of Miller, which he took great pride in.
He was known as a jack of all trades and was able to fix or make just about anything, and he was always glad to offer help and advice to anyone. Some of his favorite pastimes were tinkering on anything he could get his hands on, hunting, fishing, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. If you were to see Darrell anywhere, you would also see another love: his dog.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Nellie and Phyllis Jenkins; and a brother, Clayt.
He is survived by his children, Dana Snellings (ML), Gorham, Keri Chavez, Osage City, Dustin Madden (Elizabeth), Miller, Mo., and Cliffton Jenkins, Abilene; his five grandchildren; his brothers, Russ Jenkins (Jeannie), Emporia, and Clint Jenkins (Patty), Miller; his sister-in-law, Rene Jenkins, Admire; his nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces; and many other relatives.
Cremation has taken place, and the family will have a private inurnment at Stotler Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
