TOPEKA — Steven Brian Mounkes, 68, Lyndon, died Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka.

He was born Feb. 14, 1953, in San Diego, Calif., the son of Eldon and Donnalee (Gilman) Mounkes. He grew up near Olivet and attended the Olivet schools for his first seven years. He had lived most of his life in or near Lyndon and graduated from Lyndon High School in 1971.

Steve had worked most of his life as a heavy equipment operator in construction. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #101, and Bikers Against Child Abuse.
He was married to Karen Tibbits, and they later divorced. He was married to Annette Michael, and to this union two children were born, Alec and Mara. They later divorced.

Steve was preceded in death by his son, Alec “Bubba” Mounkes, Oct. 27, 2011; and his dad, Eldon Mounkes, Jan. 16, 2021.
He is survived by his daughter, Mara Mounkes (Jay Hill), Lyndon; his mother, Donnalee Mounkes, Lyndon; and his two sisters, Annetta Hurt (Danny), Lyndon, and Tammi Thornburgh (David), Osage City.

Funeral services for Steve will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, at Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. Burial will follow in the Lyndon Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
