Doris Swarts

Doris Swarts, Topeka, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021. She was 89.

She was born Jan. 9, 1932, in Osage City, the daughter of Ben and Pearl (Vaughn) Whitmore.  She graduated from Osage City High School.

She was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church and was a part of the choir. Her favorite thing on Earth was to sing and dance. She would sing at Christmas time at the Expo Center.

Doris and Wayne would frequently go to the Moose Lodge to dance and gather with friends. When he passed away, she continued to go with her other companions. She loved to partner dance and would go at least three times a week. She played cards and loved to gamble, her favorite being Black Jack.

Doris married Wayne B. Swarts Aug. 25, 1951, in Osage City. He preceded her in death Feb. 24, 1998.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Lois Allman and Jane Dougherty; and her two companions, Huebert “Hub” Gish and Myron “Mac” McMullen.

Survivors include a daughter, Pamela (William) Lauer; grandchildren Billy (Lisa) Lauer, Joe Lauer and Jim Lauer; and great-grandchildren Enley Lauer and Liam Lauer.

Cremation is planned and a Celebration of her Life may be at a later date.
