Evelyn Riley

TOPEKA — Evelyn Riley, Topeka, formerly of Silver Lake and Osage City, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020. She was 95.

She was born Feb. 23, 1925 the daughter of Earl Thomas and Ethel Plackett Riley, on a farm

Evelyn graduated from Osage City High School with the class of 1943. After graduation, she went to work for North American B-25 Bomber Plant until WW II ended. She then entered federal civil service at the Topeka Air Force Depot in 1945. She transferred to Fort Riley in 1958 and retired from there in 1973. She then went to work for the State of Kansas in the departments of Revenue and Administration retiring from there in 1989.

Evelyn remained active during retirement with volunteering and yard work. She was a member of Osage City American Legion Auxiliary Unit 198 and NARFE Chapter 2099, later transferring to the Topeka Chapter. She actively participated in and supported both organizations.

She moved from Osage City to Silver Lake in 2003.

She was preceded in death by longtime friend and companion, Doris Anderson.

She is survived by several cousins and many friends.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Highland Cemetery, north of Lyndon.
